My husband got a message last night from someone asking why I blocked them on Facebook. I have not blocked anyone. I just cut it all off.

There isn’t a way to let people know you have shut down your account so I guess this is how it looks.
So if you are reading this, and we were “friends” on any of the social media platforms: I’m just done.
My plan is to work on myself, my family, my goals and keep in touch with people that want to be in touch with me – my vision is that it will be a mutual thing.
I have books I want to finish. Books I want to start and finish!
I want to write letters to people that want to write letters.
I have a giant book of business that I want to actually talk to regularly.
I want to help my husband build his business again! Secretly I want to BE IN BUSINESS again with my husband but he’s not interested in Medicare…so…it will need to be something else.
I want to get outside and hike. I want to attend super fun group fitness activities.
I will travel to visit my children and grandchild.
I want to paint again and create again.
WHAT IS YOUR REALITY OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Thankfully, I lived in a day when we did not have the internet. I see what this tool has done for humankind (good and bad). I see people today determining their value to the world based off of how many LIKES they have. Is this the right way to manage yourself? I do not think it is. It is delusional.
People striving to be relevant are taking over our minds and influencing our thoughts – but those aren’t the people that should matter. I think the people that should matter are those that would pick up a phone and give you 10-20 minutes of their lives or write a letter catching you up on their life (to begin with). They wouldn’t stop talking to get paid for an advertisement.
SHARE NEWS: GOOD AND BAD
It is exciting to learn good news! I love good news so much. I love hearing people accomplish things they wanted to accomplish. I love sitting in bed at the end of the night and reading a letter from someone then drifting off to sleep imagining what I’m going to write back…eventually!
Bad news is hard but sometimes you can do something about it. People that only share bad news aren’t my kind of people because there will never be a solution that stops the bad news.
Balance of both is a reality in every one of us. I do believe that our life today is a result of our thoughts before, so maybe start thinking more positive. You don’t need to pontificate your positivity or feelings to anyone but yourself.
IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA
Pretty nice thought IMO.
What if you were influenced by the people that care about you? I don’t mean you need to agree with them, but there are people in your life that want you to succeed and won’t charge you a dime and don’t make a dime because you listened to something they said.
IN CLOSING
I don’t know how long this will last. I am told this is the only way to stay in touch with our children and family. I just don’t believe that. If our family and friends wanted to talk to us then there would be time to do that personally, not by posting on social media.
I’ll never forget how upset my husband was when he learned about the passing of someone so important to him VIA SOCIAL MEDIA. How did the word get out before the internet? Does anyone actually know?
If you want to stay in touch with me (and we aren’t already regularly communicating) just send me an email with all of your contact information so I can write you a letter now and again. I’ll share my address with you as well. Send that to saritashoemaker@gmail.com and in the subject line write I WANT TO KEEP IN TOUCH. If you want to share your phone number and birthday, cool. I’m known to send people cards on their birthdays. That’s up to you.
My new motto: Take care of myself and be a good person for myself, not for likes or approval of others.
